Studio Pilates Aires

The Studio Pilates Aires has been a trusted establishment for over 15 years, equipped with the most advanced and comprehensive equipment.

The name pays homage to Buenos Aires,
the capital city of Argentina where Christina once lived.

Founded in January 2009, the Studio Pilates Aires is entirely dedicated to the practice of original Pilates in its most original and complete form, guided by instructors certified by the renowned CovaTech® Pilates® School in Milan. Located in an elegant 140-square-metre apartment in the heart of Imperia, the studio features all the large and small equipment designed by Joseph Pilates himself. The setting is more intimate and exclusive compared to a traditional gym. The atmosphere is welcoming and serene, making it the perfect place for those who want to stay fit and active in a clean environment, supported by professional instructors. This is reflected in the positive reviews of our classes.

The Studio offers tailored lessons for everyone

The Studio Pilates Aires is equipped with all the large specific equipment designed
by Joseph H. Pilates.

The unique aspect of Pilates with machines lies in the use of spring-based equipment instead of weights. These springs, with varying levels of resistance (lighter or heavier), either facilitate or enhance the performance of an exercise. Originally conceived as bodyweight exercises (Pilates Matwork),
the movements were later adapted to be performed using the equipment.
Here you will find the most advanced
and comprehensive equipment
for practising Pilates

Universal Reformer

The Universal Reformer is the quintessential Pilates apparatus (so much so that the technique is often ambiguously referred to as “Pilates Reformer“). Its name contains the essence of the discipline: reshaping the body. It features a structure resembling a bed with a movable carriage equipped with springs, which glides back and forth on wheels. Designed to enhance joint flexibility, mobility, and overall body strength, it improves muscle tone and posture through coordinated movements, with a particular focus on core and postural control. Easy to use, it is suitable for both high- and low-intensity workout and is also ideal for post-rehabilitation training.

Cadillac

The Cadillac, also known as the rehabilitation table (or Tower Pilates, as it is called in the United States), is a wooden structure resembling a canopy bed, topped with a metal frame. This frame accommodates springs, hooks, and other small accessories (such as trapeze, rolling back bar, and tower) at various heights and angles for performing exercises. It engages deep musculature and is effective for all ages and fitness levels. Unsurprisingly, this machine owes its name to its comfort: when it was invented, it was compared to the most luxurious and comfortable car of its time. Studio Pilates Aires is also equipped with Springboards, a modern and simplified version of the Cadillac (a wall-mounted panel with various springs).

Chair

The Chair is one of the first apparatus designed by Joseph Pilates (he called it the Wunda Chair), and its name refers to its chair-like shape. It was originally designed for home use: the original Chair was created by transforming a regular armchair. It consists of a seat, a double pedal, handles, and springs attached to the pedal to adjust the resistance. The Chair allows for coordination, balancing, and strengthening exercises that engage the entire musculature.

Big Barrel

The Big Barrel is a padded wooden apparatus shaped like a half-cylinder. It allows for the mobilization of the spine in all its parts. The structure is adjustable to suit each body type and is ideal for medium- and advanced-level stretching and strengthening exercises.

Step Barrel

The Step Barrel is a variation of the Big Barrel with a different curvature radius, which Joseph Pilates referred to as the spine corrector. It is used to perform stretching and strengthening exercises for the chest, shoulders, back, and legs, as well as for correcting or restoring the natural curvature of the spine.

Swing Barrel

Designed by Anna Maria Cova to enhance proprioception, this apparatus can be used in various positions, from quadruped to supine or standing. The Swing Barrel complements the original technique with preparatory work that is beneficial for all exercises, both bodyweight and with large equipment. It is ideal for strengthening balance and reinforcing legs and ankles.

Small equipment

Today, in a Pilates class, many new small tools are used, such as fitballs, resistance bands, various types of small balls, proprioceptive boards, rollers, dumbbells, etc.
Ring

Magic Circle

(or Ring)

It is a circle about 40 cm in diameter with side handles, used for exercises focused on awareness and isometric stabilization with the arms or legs. These exercises can be performed both in Matwork and during the use of larger equipment. It can be used by applying pressure inward or outward, targeting different muscle groups, including abdominals and chest muscles.
Foam Roller

Foam Roller

(or Roller)

Originally designed for use in physiotherapy exercises, it has long become a widely used tool during Pilates classes (in matwork or even combined with larger equipment). It is often used for deep tissue massage, relieving back pain and general stiffness. It improves flexibility, increases the range of motion, and stimulates core work.

Fit Ball

Fitball

It is a simple and effective tool to use both alone and in combination with larger Pilates equipment. It helps perform exercises to strengthen the back, superficial and deep abdominals, and legs, improving balance, pelvic mobility, coordination, and overall posture.
